On Monday 6 July, join us as we celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC with a special exhibition showcasing five decades of official NAIDOC posters. We welcomed community members to celebrate the launch of our special exhibition, "50 Years of NAIDOC."
From Elders who remember NAIDOC's earliest days to our youngest trainees stepping into their own cultural journey, the pride was felt in every conversation and every step through the exhibition.
This year's NAIDOC theme, "50 Years of Deadly," celebrates the people, stories and movements that have shaped the past five decades. It honours the Elders, leaders, artists and communities who have carried the movement forward, while looking ahead to the next generation who will continue to lead with pride, culture and strength.
Our exhibition begins with the very first official NAIDOC poster from 1972, featuring the powerful words, "Advance Australia Where?". As visitors move through the exhibition, they'll journey across five decades of NAIDOC history, discovering the themes, stories and moments that have shaped the movement.
Along the way, they'll meet community members from different generations, each representing the enduring strength of culture and the legacy being carried forward by future generations.

Step into Storytellers Lane and experience the creativity, stories and perspectives of nine Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
The Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship, proudly delivered by Façon Magazine, celebrates and supports emerging Indigenous creatives by providing mentorship, recognition and a platform to share their work. The 2026 finalists’ works will be displayed in Murrook Culture Centre until mid-September, showcasing a diverse range of creative disciplines including art, photography, film, fashion, accessory design, writing, music, dance and digital art.
We invite visitors to explore the exhibition, connect with each finalist’s story and celebrate the incredible talent and creativity of the next generation of Indigenous storytellers.
The exhibition is now open at Murrook Culture Centre.

AN INTERACTIVE EXHIBITION
Murrook Culture Centre is proud to welcome “Bidhiinja”, a powerful new exhibition that shines a light on the lost oyster reefs of New South Wales and the growing movement to bring them back.
Developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum in collaboration with the NSW Department of Primary Industries, Bidhiinja explores the forgotten history of oyster reefs and the critical role they once played in coastal environments and communities. The exhibition draws together science, history and cultural knowledge to tell the story of these remarkable ecosystems and why their restoration matters.
Through storytelling, research and visual interpretation, Bidhiinja invites audiences to reconsider the landscapes beneath our waters and imagine a future where oyster reefs thrive once again. The exhibition is both a reminder of what has been lost and a hopeful glimpse at what can be restored.
